The Rotary Club of Smyrna is partnering with Rotary Clubs in Branchburg Township, New Jersey, Singapore and Balaju, Nepal on a Dhulikhel Rotary Club $40,000 international global grant project to purchase hospital equipment for Dhulikhel, Nepal's Scheer Memorial Hospital. The project is now fully funded and approved by The Rotary Foundation.
Scheer Memorial is a 150-bed general community hospital offering specialty services in Surgery, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, Orthopedics, Urology, Dermatology, Endocrinology, ENT, and Emergency Medicine. Scheer Memorial has both an Adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and a Neonatal ICU and much more. The project's main focus is the health of women, children, and other disadvantaged populations in Nepal. Due to increases in accidents, more natural calamities and aging equipment, the hospital couldn't provide expected service and often turned patients away to expensive private hospitals. Patients often had to sell their property for treatment, and some would die on their way to other hospitals.
